written 11/22/13 – One of the comments that was posted was when do I write. How do I fit this in with kids. The comment was from Tasha. Her blog is at http://tasha-mae.blogspot.com/ if you want to visit her. When the kids were young I wrote in a paper journal in the five free minutes between when the kids went to bed at night and when they all got back up. Eventually there was more time so I could write for more than a few minutes. I wanted to write every day to give the kids a journal of their childhood. Since it was written in a paper journal, I figured that I would need to write at least three journals and they could decide who got each one, or someone could make copies so everyone could have all three. In reality I didn’t write every day. It just didn’t make it to the top of the list. Some days were better than others. As the kids got bigger my free time became the time that I was waiting for them in the car. I wanted to write, but didn’t want to take the journal out…if I lost it then our history was gone. I tried a notebook and then tried to re-write it into the journal. Writing it the first time was fun, re-coping it wasn’t. Then I went to notebook paper that I was going to put into a three ring binder. I wouldn’t need to carry the past writing with me and it wouldn’t need to be rewritten. I kept loosing the papers. Then I went to the computer. But I could only write at home. Eventually I got a Nook. It has worked so far. It is small enough to fit into my purse and the entries can be transferred to the computer. That was probably a lot more information than you wanted to know.
The original question was ‘how do I fit it in?’ I keep changing it as the kids change. I saw a journal for sale in a magazine last year. It was a line per day journal. I have heard from friends that they use this one. It gives them a sense of what was happening in their family over time, without making writing into a job. Right now I am trying to write every day. The kids are older and we are not in any big drama. The year that Maggie started high school I didn’t journal at all. She had a lot of papers to do. They all had to be typed and she had the computer all evening every evening. The most difficult thing for me is to find something to write about. I keep paper with me to write small notes about our day on. Some days we do the normal things and there isn’t anything new to write about so if something happens that I can blog about I want to remember it. Also the kids know that I write and they sometimes they say ‘hey mom, you could write about that.’ Some days I miss and don’t write. It happens. If I have a lot to say about many topics I will type them in and then post them each day. I like being ahead on posting, it relieves the stress.
written 10 ! 26 ! 13 – I have made some new goals. One of them is to post every day. This one has not been going very well. I have been sick and haven’t made it onto the computer this week. My plan is to write during the week on my Nook and add the posts in on the weekends, to be released each day. Then if we have a lot going on, this goal can still be accomplished.
Another goal is to start to meditate. I have a Yoga VHS that has meditation on it so I…or we, if the kids want to join in…can learn from this tape.
I also have a few family goals. One of the problems that I have is when a goal is made, I either loose the list of goals, or the goal gets lost on the family calendar and it never gets completed. We were at the store the other day and got calendars for 2014. We now have a second one for me that can be used for separate goals. We took the 2013 calendar and made a copy of the October, November and December pages. Our main calendar has things like the kids school holidays and club events…like parades and dances. Years ago we had separate calendars for these things, school and goals, and it didn’t work. I don’t remember why. We went to having everything on one calendar and that didn’t work. We are now back to separate calendars. As long as we keep moving forward, I guess that is what really matters.
Another goal is to get a copy of the driving rules of the road. My kids don’t have licenses yet. We are going to try reading a small section of the book at dinner after we read our devotional. It should only take a few minutes and help the kids feel more comfortable with the test. None of them want to drive.
These are a few of my current goals.
written 9 ! 24 ! 13 – My days never seem to go the way that I plan them. Tonight the girls had youth group. I was going to write while they were there. Last weekend Maggie told me that she would need a back pack soon. We didn’t get to it so tonight she said that she needed one now. Maggie doesn’t like to miss youth group, so the backpack must have been a real mess. Last night Beth said that she was going to wear a skirt to youth group. That was nice, but some of her skirts are too short. We got in the car, picked up two of their friends for youth group. I realized that she was wearing a skirt. I couldn’t see the length while she was sitting down. We were already late. How did she get out of the house in a skirt without me seeing her? She trades her outgrown clothes with her friends at school so I am not there when she gets the clothes. We got to the church, looked at her skirt, it was long enough. Maggie and I went to the store to get a backpack. Since we hadn’t planned on buying a backpack today, I didn’t have the money with me. The church is not in our neighborhood so we needed to find an ATM. We looked at the choices of stores while we looked for an ATM, that way if we found an ATM we would know the choices of stores. In the end…we did find an ATM and at the second store we found a backpack that she liked, was big enough and was in our price range. We took Maggie back to youth group. Crisis diverted.
There was another day about a month ago that I had planned to write but one of the kids had taken their phone charger cord outside to take with us in the car…now the part of the phone charger cord with the prongs came off of the cord. The girls had been playing chase in the back yard and the plug in part had come off. They didn’t realize it was missing until we were on our way home. I am not sure why the charger went to the car, they don’t use it there. We spent the evening in the backyard with flashlights looking for the outlet part. We never did find it.
We should stop at the back door on our way out so I could say to the kids “what are you wearing and what are you taking” but we are always running too fast to do that.
I have good intentions to write, but we have a lot of life going on here. My posts would be better written if I had more time to write, but there wouldn’t be as much to write about. I like it this way.
Here is a cow that we saw last weekend.
