written 3.23.14 – Maggie picked Environmental Science as her major. I am so excited that she has some idea what she wants to do as a career, it will make scheduling classes in college so much easier. She can always change her mind later if she wants, but it is so awesome that she has a starting point.
written 3.24.14 – William found three jobs in the help wanted section of the paper. Since Maggie now has a major we started looking for scholarships for her. We found some scholarships that are due this week. Beth has picked a major. Cad cam which is drawing for manufacturing.
Beth has submitted some poetry to a magazine today. I was surprised, since I didn’t know that she wrote poetry. She wrote it, and found magazines to submit it to and submitted it without my help. Good for her, she is becoming independent.
written 3.25.14 – We are taking one of Beth’s friends home from study table today. William is going to apply tonight to the three jobs he found in the paper. Maggie is at school studying until ten. It is snowing. Not a lot of snow but enough that there is no mistake that it is snowing. It has been such a snowy winter, with the roads closed and schools closed so much that I am still almost frightened when it snows.

written 1/14/14 – Maggie got all of her classes scheduled today. She is happy with her schedule. I am so relieved that she is done. At the last parent meeting they said that we should get a copy of all of their syllabuses. Then we could know when papers are due and when tests are. Then if we see that a big test is coming up and our kids are not studying, we can ask our kids about the upcoming test. It is not to follow their every assignment, just to make sure that they don’t fall off of any cliffs.
Beth has finals starting tomorrow. She has been studying. She loves seeing all of her friends at school and is happy to be back.
A lot of the snow has melted. This last weekend we could see most of the streets. There are still piles of snow in parking lots. They are so big and cold that it takes a while to thaw them.
How is the weather where you are? Please stop by again!
written 1/13/14 – It has been a lot warmer. It was above freezing and rainy over the weekend. The kids fort is starting to melt. When it was snowy we had made a path to out gas meter. Now it is melting down to the grass.
We need to darn some of Beth’s sox. I don’t know if we need the darning ball…I am not sure if that is the name of it…or if we can darn them without it. I haven’t tried to darn soxs since junior high and I wasn’t successfull. The mending has to be flat so that it doesn’t feel strange to walk on the repair. Beth loves her sox, they are fun designs and she doesn’t like to get rid of them so we need to try to repair them.
Maggie has built the cats a house. It started out as one room, but the larger cat couldn’t turn around in it, so she added a side room. It also has a sun roof. I am not sure why she added the second side room with the empty peanut butter jar on it. It may be because she can take the peanut butter jar off…it isn’t taped on…and she can play with the cats through it.
written 8/25/13 – We went to the race track last night. We had just watched the movie “Seabiscuit”. In this movie the jockeys are on the horses with saddles. At the race track by us the horses pull carts and the jockeys are in the carts. Cart is probably not the correct word. It took my kids awhile to get over the fact that the jockeys were in carts. We had just finished getting the kids school supplies, so we were late. They had already run two races. We sat outside at first. It was warmer that when William and I went. All of the picnic tables were taken so we stood at the railing. After a few races we went inside. We went over to where we could see the horses in the stalls and watched them for a while. Then we went upstairs for a while to watch. The front wall is all glass to watch the racing through. They also have TVs. We could see the names of the horses. We chose which horse we liked and talked about which horse had the coolest name. After a while the kids wanted to go back outside. We saw the last two races outside. Then we took Beth’s friend home. It was a long day but we had fun.
written 6/30/13 – William and I went to see the horse racing this summer. It was a warm evening when we went. The races had already started by the time that we got there. I think that they were having ten races that night. There are picnic tables by the track and indoor seats on the second floor. The first floor has the betting areas, the food and the stalls for the horses. We sat outside first. William and I decided to see two races sitting outside and two races inside. It was warm out, but the sun sets behind the building, making the outside picnic table area chilly…OK I was chilly, William wasn’t. The horses trotted around the track for a while so that the guests can take a look at them, then they race. The car with the gates lines them up and goes with them around the track for a while, finally pulling in the gates and moving to the side of the track. After the race, the owner, trainer and jockey get their picture taken with the winning horse. After the first two races, we went inside to find the other seating. We did find the stalls off to one side. I would like to go again and take Maggie and Beth.It was fun to go somewhere new.
