7/10/15 moving the movies and planting seeds…

written 1/29/14 – We have too many movies for our movie shelf. We moved some items off of another shelf to make room for the movies. When the movies were moved we now have a lot of the movies that were in the back out in front. It is like getting a lot of new movies. I may go to the movie shelf and rearrange it more often so that we have fresh choices. 1294

We need to look at our seeds and see when they need to be started. We have had a small garden for the past few years. We like to start the seeds inside in the winter…it is so much cheaper…but sometimes we have too much going on and we buy our plants at Lowes. We have a table set up to start our seeds on. 1291

One year we planted herbs. Some of them are high maintenance. Basil needs to have all of its leaves washed off the night before they are picked. This was too much work for us. We always have tomatoes. Two years ago we had tomatoes in one spot. In November of that year we planted garlic there. The next summer the tomatoes grew back, on top of the garlic. It was a busy year for us and we didn’t get the tomatoes moved. When it was time to harvest the garlic, we couldn’t see them. This year if the tomatoes come up in that area again, we are going to move them. Is it good to have the garlic grow for two years before we harvest it?

3/5/15 new year, saving seeds…

written 12/1/13 – How is it December already? Where did the year go? I need to update the new calendar with all of the birthdays and school days off, decide on my New Years Resolutions,  and plan the garden for next year.

We saved some seeds from our garden this year. This is our first try at seed saving. I read one article and said ”lets do this”. We saved tomato seeds. We took the seeds from the tomato and cleaned them off. We let them dry on paper towels, then we scraped them off of the towels and put them in little plastic containers with lids. I put on next years calendar where the containers are so that we can find them. We will get some store bought plants too, Just in case these don’t sprout. This is a picture of the seeds drying on the paper towel.seeds

2/8/15 saving tomato seeds, walnuts…

written 10 ! 15 ! 13 – We are going to try saving some seeds from our tomato plants this year. The plants are heirloom so the plants that sprout next year should be the same as the parent plant that we got the seeds from. This will be our first time saving seeds.
A few years ago we collected walnuts from a few trees in the area. When they fall off of the tree they have an inedible coating that is about one fourth to one half inch thick . We got directions on YouTube on how to get the covering and the shells off to get to the meat of the walnut. We started with about 30 plastic grocery bags of walnuts. There are so many walnuts in our area that is seemed like such a shame to have them go to waste. We ended up with about two inches of walnut meat in a gallon sized Ziploc bag. I don’t think that we will ever do that again, but I am saving some mesh bags to dry the walnuts in case we change our minds. If you do try this, I would suggest wearing two pairs of rubber gloves. We had a good time taking the outside covering off of the walnuts and later taking the hammer to the shells to get the walnut meat released. Now we understand why walnuts are so expensive.

3/12/14 cont. School pictures, conferences and shaving…

written 9/28/11 – Maggie had picture day last week, Beth’s is next week, but we don’t have Beth’s order form yet. Maggie has parent / teacher conferences tomorrow. She is in high school. We have an appointment time with the homeroom teacher. Then we can go see the other teachers as they have openings.

It is raining sort of hard. It has rained a lot this week. The tomato plant and the beans haven’t needed watered in a long time.

Saturday 10/1/11 William shaved last night!!! He did an excellent job. This was his first time shaving at home. He said that he would shave once a month. In the past we have been having his beard trimmed when he got his hair cut. Last night was a clean shave. William’s beard came in early and thick. It didn’t fill in all of the way, but there was a lot of it. All of the hair surprised all of us.

blog income
I have been looking for a way to bring extra cash into my family without getting a second job. I just want enough extra income to be able to pay the bills but still be able to have time to enjoy my kids. I tried a lot of web sites that offered envelope stuffing, they were all dead ends. Then I tried blogging. I figured that if enough people visited my blog then I could add advertisements and get paid. If I monetized my blog I could take the profit to help my family. I have found Blogsvertise. With them I can have advertisements on my blog, or have guest posts or have banner ads. I am still new to this. If I bring other people in to Blogsvertise I can get a percent of what they make. I have the link on the side of my blog. If you click on it you can register your blog and start making money. Please register from my link so they know that you came in through me. If you need to come back later to register please save my page as a favorite and register through my link when you are ready.
