written 10/10/13 – We have been talking about working on our 90 day crunch challenge. It is a sit up challenge. We start with five sit ups the first night and every day for ninety days we add five more sit-ups. So the second day we did ten and the third day we did fifteen. We were supposed to continue but instead after the first three days we took a three month break. Also the first three days were not consecutive. We do have the chart. I made a chart so that we can cross the days off as we go along. This saves us from having to remember how many sit ups to do each day. We have decided that at this rate we may be ninety years old and be doing two hundred sit-ups a night to finish the challenge.
Maggie had her school pictures last Friday, Beth has her pictures this Friday. When we get the picture forms I always know that we have made it. The kids are in school, we have school supplies, school clothes and back packs. All of the things for school have been purchased and we can all relax now.
written 1/2/14 – Yesterday I found a blog that explained how to write a good thank-you note. My kids and I do write thank-yous, but they are not very good. The blog is at http://www.peckedtodeathbychickens.com/how-to-write-a-3-minute-thank-you-note-that-people-will-want-to-thank-you-for/ I hope that this will help us.
Last Tuesday we went to Maggie’s last two cultural events for this school year. One was a dog show at a local pet store. They had a dog that danced with her owner. It was cute. The owner said that the dog was trained to follow her hand to know which way to move. It was very interesting. She said we could Google “dog free style dancing” to see more examples. We took Beth and her boyfriend to this event. It was relatively close to our house. When the show was over we stayed at the pet store for a while.
The second event was a local Historical Society’s 50th anniversary. The dog show was inside. I had pictured the anniversary party as an inside event. It wasn’t. It lasted an hour and had songs of the season, The Vice Mayor spoke, the town Crier was there, there were historical figures and the towns large bell was rung 50 times. They also shot off a cannon a few times. It was good to see the town keeping its past alive. It was so cold.
Maggie had gotten the directions from Mapquest.com for the Anniversary party. The kids are older and do a lot of the map reading and direction giving when we go places. This does get a little tricky. With the kids giving the directions we need to leave early for every event so that if we get lost we can still be there on time. My kids like to give me the next line of the directions and put the directions away. If we need directions fast they need to get the directions out and unfold them, find their place and ask what my question was. By that time we have missed the turn. We are getting better at this and make most events on time. We only got lost once on the way to the anniversary party. It was dark when we went. We did remember to take the flashlight so that we could read the directions. Years ago we had a flashlight that we kept in the glove compartment of the car. When it needed new batteries we took it in and it never made its way back to the car. We do need a flashlight in the car.
Maggie is a senior. The crunch is on. She has a lot of homework to do, but she also has a lot “senior” work to do to. She needs letters of recommendation from her teachers. The teachers want a list of her clubs / accomplishments and volunteer work so that they can write correct letters. Maggie can use these letters when she signs up for scholarships. She also needs to apply for two scholarships by this Friday. The students are required to do this so that they have had practice while an adviser is there to help. She is signed up to take the ACT already and she has finished her volunteer hours and cultural events and turned them into her adviser. The senior group picture is scheduled for this Friday. She talked to the counselor today to make sure that she hasn’t missed anything.
Maggie is very calm about all of the work that needs to be done. I am so worried that we will miss something. What are your projects that you are doing with your kids this year?
Thanks for stopping by! Come back tomorrow and see what new adventures we have found!!!
