I have been struggling to keep the bills paid. Just when I think that everything is almost OK, I get something in the mail that says that I missed a payment. So far I have tried writing my “big five” bills on a piece of paper and tracking them every month to be sure that they are paid. The “big five” are the ones that must be paid or everything falls apart. They are the mortgage, the gas bill, the electric bill, the phone bill and the water bill. When any payment is made I add it to the column for that bill. Then I can see when they are paid or if they have been missed. It didn’t work. There are still a lot of other bills, like doctor bills that aren’t listed and I can’t figure out if they have been paid.
Next I went to cutting out different shapes to represent the size of a bill and to have a better visual of what needs to be paid. This was to be put on the wall so that I could see it. The theory is that when one is completely paid, that shape can be taken off of the wall. This was done for the extra bills, not the “big five”. In theory it was a good idea, but I didn’t want them where the kids could easily see them and I would have to answer a lot of questions, so they went into a place where I couldn’t see them either.
My new plan is to put all of the bills on one sheet of paper. The “big five” are one side of the paper so that they are paid. The rest are all on the other side. I hope that this works. My next plan is to see where we can cut back so that we can have “extra” money to get these bills paid,
