Last week I set a goal of cleaning off the buffet. I usually make a list of all of my goals. Sometimes I try to remember all of them, but with three kids, I forget a lot of things. It usually works like this. I set a goal and then forget it a lot of times and finally write it down on a piece of paper. Next I do the things on the list that are totally necessary for every day life, like buying milk. Then I set the list somewhere, where I never see it again. When I remember the goal again, I write it on the new list that I am working on. One day I decided that nothing was getting accomplished except for me buying milk, so I got a small notepad, the size that would fit into a back pocket. I wrote all of my goals into the notebook and put it securely into my purse so that I wouldn’t loose it. I felt so free. I had my goals written down and wouldn’t loose the paper. … Then I forgot what the goals were, I forgot to look at the new notebook, and I forgot that I had a new notebook. So, I forgot to clean off the buffet, but we do have milk.
What are your goals? How do you reach them?
written 11 ! 2 ! 13 – I have been trying to do every job every day. It is impossible! By the time that dinner is done and my clothes are matched for the next day, there is no time to help my kids with their flash cards for school. My kids are older, but they do need help with school work sometimes. I have found a hanging rack (I know that that is not the correct name for it) that clothes can be put into separate compartments that are stacked on one another and it is hung in the closet. I am going to put next weeks outfits into it. That will free up some time. I need to get back into once a month cooking. Years ago I did this and it was great. I think that we got out of it because, for it to work, we needed to go to the grocery store with the list, a calculator and the money. We kept leaving the list at home, to add more things to it, and just got back into the habit of cooking every day. We also need to get back into making lunches on Saturdays and freezing them.
written 10 ! 26 ! 13 – I have made some new goals. One of them is to post every day. This one has not been going very well. I have been sick and haven’t made it onto the computer this week. My plan is to write during the week on my Nook and add the posts in on the weekends, to be released each day. Then if we have a lot going on, this goal can still be accomplished.
Another goal is to start to meditate. I have a Yoga VHS that has meditation on it so I…or we, if the kids want to join in…can learn from this tape.
I also have a few family goals. One of the problems that I have is when a goal is made, I either loose the list of goals, or the goal gets lost on the family calendar and it never gets completed. We were at the store the other day and got calendars for 2014. We now have a second one for me that can be used for separate goals. We took the 2013 calendar and made a copy of the October, November and December pages. Our main calendar has things like the kids school holidays and club events…like parades and dances. Years ago we had separate calendars for these things, school and goals, and it didn’t work. I don’t remember why. We went to having everything on one calendar and that didn’t work. We are now back to separate calendars. As long as we keep moving forward, I guess that is what really matters.
Another goal is to get a copy of the driving rules of the road. My kids don’t have licenses yet. We are going to try reading a small section of the book at dinner after we read our devotional. It should only take a few minutes and help the kids feel more comfortable with the test. None of them want to drive.
These are a few of my current goals.
written 9 ! 8 ! 13 – Beth had a car show to go to for her school today. I am not a car person, but it is cool to see all of the cars. Her school is displaying their go carts, making buttons and they have the remote control robots. This show goes from eleven to five.
Beth and I set our goals for this year. She wants to get good grades and I am going to find a lot of cultural events for us to go to. We need a goal to keep us motivated. I get most of my ideas from the local newspapers that are outside of the library.
School has started. It was so amazing how we jumped back into the routine. We are packing lunches and doing homework . Years ago it took us a lot longer to settle in.
Beth has bow in her hair that is made out of duct tape. I don’t understand the joy that this generation is getting out of duct tape. She also has a duct tape bill fold. One of Maggie’s friends made her Halloween costume out of duct tape.
Here are some pictures from the antique car show. We didn’t make it to the whole show. We spent most of the day with Beth’s school at their booth. Enjoy the pictures!
written 1/8/12 – My goal…again…this next week is to move the boxes in the basement from in front of the shoe shelf. Maybe the boxes will get moved, or maybe I will just write about this every week.
At Thanksgiving we had a cutting from the blackberry bush and another bush as our centerpiece. We also had a glass container of pine cones. The blackberry bush cutting has sprouted a root!
Maggie has one of her puzzles partway together. It is a cartoon of a lot of office people in their cubicles.
I think that it is only about four more months until spring.
I didn’t do any of my weekend jobs this weekend. Tonight I need to match my clothes.
Do you ever have weekends where you don’t get anything done?
2014 April’s Bible verse: “These are the things that you shall do: Speak the truth to one another, render in your gates judgments that are true and make for peace, do not devise evil in your hearts against one another, and love no false oath, for all of these things I hate, says the Lord.” Zechariah 8:16,17
