2/9/16. Day 40/365…

11/28/15 following directions…

A friend of mine at church wrote a book last year and is going on speaking tours. She is a talented writer and speaker. First she was a speaker at church and felt the nudging from God to write a book, so she did. She followed what God wanted her to do. Now she is feeling the nudge to go on more speaking tours and to write more. So again, she is following God’s will. I am so happy for her, and so sad to see her go and so … envious … that she follows where she is led and I don’t. Why don’t I follow? I am led to write a blog, to share what is happening, good and the bad times from my family so that others can read it, and either get inspiration for their own lives or to see what to do or not to do, based on what we have done. This should be easy for me. I love to talk, I like to write, my family has a lot going on, especially lately, so there is a lot to write about, I can now write on my computer, my nook or my phone and with the kids now being older, I do have a lot of free time t write. But, even with all of that, I don’t post every day, and sometimes not even every week or month. All day, every day I write posts in my head, and sometimes take a lot of pictures to go with my posts, but these posts don’t make it to the blog. Many nights I sit down on the couch and don’t get back up, or we put in a movie that we have or a library movie and I watch it. I could write my posts while we watch a movie, but usually I just watch the movie with my kids. I say to myself that if I am typing, I am not really with the kids, but the kids are on their phones or tablets while they watch the movie.

I want to start posting more, every day and learn to follow God’s will for me. It is odd that I don’t follow where God is leading me. The times that I have followed Him have been truly rewarding. I am not sure if it’s because I am afraid to fail and to not be able to fix the new problems that are now created, or if it’s because I am afraid to succeed. What new areas would I now be in if things started going well, could I manage in a positive thriving environment or would it be too new to me and I couldn’t take care of my family? My kids say that I have lived my life scared. I don’t want to be scared any more.

What scares you? What are you doing to get past the fear? Who or what is your inspiration?

11/3/15 volunteering…

written 3.3.14 – William and I have started volunteering outside of church. We found a soup kitchen that gets its volunteers from our church. They serve dinner three times a week. William and I went over on a Wednesday. The sign outside said that dinner was from five to six thirty so we got there at about four. We didn’t call first, we just showed up. We thought that if we needed to help make the meal we would need to be there early. It turned out that one group of volunteers makes the meal and a different group comes in and serves the meal. The group that makes the meal makes twice as much as is needed and puts it on a cart and someone from another church comes and gets it and serves it at another church that doesn’t have a kitchen. Soon the the volunteers who would be serving the meal showed up. We waited for the minister of the church that we were serving at to talk and say a prayer before the meal was served..
It is always difficult for me the first time that I go somewhere…will they like and accept me…will I find someone to talk to…I do go to a lot of new places and events, and I go alone a lot, but I do worry a lot, this time was easier, William was there too. It was a nice group of people there were about ten or fifteen people serving the meal. Before we started serving the man in charge of the volunteers talked to the new people. He said not to give anyone money and not to give anyone a ride. If someone needs these things have them talk to him or the pastor. Also he said that we should talk to the people having the meal. That is the most important part of being there. He said a prayer in the kitchen and we were given serving jobs. William served drinks with two other men and I served the rice.
William said that he would go back and serve once a week with me. They do serve meals on Monday, Wednesday and Friday but it would be too much for our family to go more than once a week.
One of the reasons that we are going is because William needs a reference when he fills out job applications. He doesn’t talk to many people so he can’t ask anyone. Serving meals is a nice way for a quiet person to meet people. The computer store that we get our computers fixed at would like to interview William, but he needs a reference to fill out the application. The gentleman that owns the store said that he needs people who will talk to others since all  of his people need to talk to customers. William would like to work there but needs to get a reference first.

8/27/15 talents…

written 1/26/14 – We got about two inches of snow on Saturday. It was fluffy snow so the kids couldn’t rebuild their forts with it.
Our church services were cancelled on Sunday because of the weather so we watched the service online. The minister talked about the story of the person who gave talents to his people and went on a trip. He came back to see what had been done with his money. The pastor said that to the person that much talent was given, much was expected. Matthew 25:14-30 I have always wondered if I am doing enough. Raising the kids is a good way to use my talents. We do go to events at church and volunteer at Christmas. We could be doing more. But if we do too much we loose our handle on the kids homework and I don’t want to over-church them. Where is our balance?
Also, should I be doing other things besides raising the kids? Should I be crocheting hats to sell, be on a committee at church, raise chickens? I have other things that I am good at, but when I do them, there isn’t as much time for the kids. Where is my balance? I want to honor God with my choices, but I am not sure what to do. Where do you find your balance?

7/4/15 broken boilers and mission trips…

written 1/21/14 – Our boiler broke yesterday. When we got up it was chilly in the house, not cold, just chilly. The pilot light had gone out. We have lit it before, so we tried again. Sometimes in the summer the wind gets in through an open window and blows out the pilot light. But, this is winter and the windows are closed. It didn’t light. We found the directions and tried again. It didn’t light. We called the maintenance man. He came over said that a part had broken and he replaced it. While he was here he showed us the correct way to relight the pilot. I asked if there was any preventative maintenance that we should be doing and he said no. We already bleed the pipes in the house once a year. Have you had a quiet week? 12112

We went to a mission trip meeting tonight. Maggie and Beth are going on a mission trip this summer. They went on a mission trip two years ago with the church to New Orleans for a week and they did a camp in the morning and went to neighborhoods in the afternoon. The girls are really looking forward to going back and helping in the camp with the kids again. It is a great chance for them to be the hands and feet of Christ.

The next mission trip meeting is next Tuesday. People can still sign up for the mission trips. There are also two other trips scheduled for that week.

Thanks for stopping by. If you like my blog, please stop in again tomorrow!!!

3/16/15 Christmas…

written 12/26/13 – Merry Christmas!

We had a fun Christmas. The day before Christmas we volunteered at church. We are still relatively new there so volunteering has been a good way to meet people. Maggie volunteered in the child care area and William, Beth, Beth’s boyfriend and I made hot chocolate.

On Christmas morning we finish the nativity set. When the kids were young we started Joseph and Mary in a different room and had them move each night closer to the nativity set…unless we forgot about them for a night and moved them an extra amount the next night…or the year that we got busy with homework and they made the whole trip Christmas morning. Then we bring in baby Jesus. We read a little from the Bible, the part about the census and returning to Bethlehem and the angles appearing to the shepherds. Then we open presents. Mom comes over on Christmas. We do have a large family, but mom is the only one in town.

I haven’t written in a while so if I repeat pictures or stories, I am sorry. I repeat myself a lot in real life too!!!

I can’t get the pictures to load. I will have pictures on another post.

2/28/15 missing church…

written 11/25/13 – We didn’t make it to church yesterday. We were going to go to the 12:30 service. When we went to the car the tire was going flat. By the time that we got the nail taken out of it, the service was over. We can watch the talk on the internet. They post previous talks, which is really nice. I like being there in person, but having the option of seeing it later or seeing the service live on the internet is helpful. A few weeks ago I was sick, so the kids and I watched the service at home.  We need to get to the church next week.

Maggie rearranged her room this weekend.

I can’t get the pictures to open on my computer today. Sorry, hopefully they will open tomorrow.

1/30/15 writing, backpacks…

written 9 ! 24 ! 13 – My days never seem to go the way that I plan them. Tonight the girls had youth group. I was going to write while they were there. Last weekend Maggie told me that she would need a back pack soon. We didn’t get to it so tonight she said that she needed one now. Maggie doesn’t like to miss youth group, so the backpack must have been a real mess. Last night Beth said that she was going to wear a skirt to youth group. That was nice, but some of her skirts are too short. We got in the car, picked up two of their friends for youth group. I realized that she was wearing a skirt. I couldn’t see the length while she was sitting down. We were already late. How did she get out of the house in a skirt without me seeing her? She trades her outgrown clothes with her friends at school so I am not there when she gets the clothes.  We got to the church, looked at her skirt, it was long enough. Maggie and I went to the store to get a backpack. Since we hadn’t planned on buying a backpack today, I didn’t have the money with me. The church is not in our neighborhood so we needed to find an ATM. We looked at the choices of stores while we looked for an ATM, that way if we found an ATM we would know the choices of stores. In the end…we did find an ATM and at the second store we found a backpack that she liked, was big enough and was in our price range. We took Maggie back to youth group. Crisis diverted.
There was another day about a month ago that I had planned to write but one of the kids had taken their phone charger cord outside to take with us in the car…now the part of the phone charger cord with the prongs came off of the cord. The girls had been playing chase in the back yard and the plug in part had come off. They didn’t realize it was missing until we were on our way home. I am not sure why the charger went to the car, they don’t use it there. We spent the evening in the backyard with flashlights looking for the outlet part. We never did find it.
We should stop at the back door on our way out so I could say to the kids “what are you wearing and what are you taking” but we are always running too fast to do that.
I have good intentions to write, but we have a lot of life going on here. My posts would be better written if I had more time to write, but there wouldn’t be as much to write about. I like it this way.

Here is a cow that we saw last weekend.

1/26/15 volunteering…

written 9 ! 12 ! 13 – Maggie needs nine hours of volunteer time this year for her school. We volunteered tonight at our church. On Thursday nights the church has a free medical clinic, and a free dinner. We volunteered in the kitchen. We are mostly an outgoing family but it is still hard to go somewhere new. The people were really nice and found us a spot right away. When we got there people were at the door for the clinic and dinner. After we were done we had dinner.

Here is a chicken statue that we drove past today. This is a cool thing to pass in the car. These statues are fun to point out to the kids.

blog income
I have been looking for a way to bring extra cash into my family without getting a second job. I just want enough extra income to be able to pay the bills but still be able to have time to enjoy my kids. I tried a lot of web sites that offered envelope stuffing, they were all dead ends. Then I tried blogging. I figured that if enough people visited my blog then I could add advertisements and get paid. If I monetized my blog I could take the profit to help my family. I have found Blogsvertise. With them I can have advertisements on my blog, or have guest posts or have banner ads. I am still new to this. If I bring other people in to Blogsvertise I can get a percent of what they make. I have the link on the side of my blog. If you click on it you can register your blog and start making money. Please register from my link so they know that you came in through me. If you need to come back later to register please save my page as a favorite and register through my link when you are ready.
