Happy New Year!!! I pray for a Happy New Year for all that visit my blog and that God will guide us safely to wherever we need to go.
I have not been posting every day, it seems to be a struggle with finding the time to do everything. I write blogs all day in my head, but can’t find time to put them on my Nook, while I am waiting for kids and sitting in my car, or writing them directly onto the blog at home. Also I haven’t been adding pictures. For a while my phone wouldn’t let me add pictures. I had wanted to be part of the 365 day challenge, adding a picture each day. I even bought a calendar to carry with me so that I could take a picture while I was out and add it to to blog while I was waiting to pick someone up. But … my blog won’t let me add any pictures at all, not from my phone or from my computer. So I have a lot of pictures that will be added when the blog lets me do this. Maybe it’s God’s way of saying “Please write”, or maybe it is a computer glitch.
So this year, lets start a Bible study!!! I am so excited. If we try to have it every day then maybe this will keep me on the blog every day. Lets start with Genesis 1, and read a chapter each day. I have a Revised Standard Version Bible, so that is where my I will be posting a Bible verse each day from. Who’s in??? You can post a comment about the verse that I have posted or post a verse of your own, or post about anything.
Genesis chapter 1.
Genesis 1:3 “And God said, “Let there be light”; and there was light.”
God is so powerful that he can say “Let there be light” and light appears, or is made, or is there. And he has a plan. This wasn’t random, He knew what he wanted to do, how He wanted to set it up, and He did it. I guess that is why I want to be more like God, not to be powerful, I like have limited power, but to have a plan, to take the time to think it through and to actually do things on my plan. I am sometimes a wanderer. I get caught up in whatever is happening and loose sight of the bigger picture for my family. The day to day is important, but if there is a bigger plan, like things to do over the summer, or getting the once a month cooking done each month, these things are really helpful to my family. Many times I make a plan, think it through and write down everything that needs to be done. I am a list maker. Then I get involved in the latest crisis, happening, daily event at our house and either forget about the plan, or loose my list. I don’t think that I have ADD, but I do need to focus more. This year I have gotten a small notebook to keep in my purse to write my lists on. This way I will always know where the list is, I will just need to remember to look at the list.
Where do you struggle in finding and keeping your direction? How are you trying to overcome this?
written 12/1/13 – How is it December already? Where did the year go? I need to update the new calendar with all of the birthdays and school days off, decide on my New Years Resolutions, and plan the garden for next year.
We saved some seeds from our garden this year. This is our first try at seed saving. I read one article and said ”lets do this”. We saved tomato seeds. We took the seeds from the tomato and cleaned them off. We let them dry on paper towels, then we scraped them off of the towels and put them in little plastic containers with lids. I put on next years calendar where the containers are so that we can find them. We will get some store bought plants too, Just in case these don’t sprout. This is a picture of the seeds drying on the paper towel.
written 10 ! 26 ! 13 – I have made some new goals. One of them is to post every day. This one has not been going very well. I have been sick and haven’t made it onto the computer this week. My plan is to write during the week on my Nook and add the posts in on the weekends, to be released each day. Then if we have a lot going on, this goal can still be accomplished.
Another goal is to start to meditate. I have a Yoga VHS that has meditation on it so I…or we, if the kids want to join in…can learn from this tape.
I also have a few family goals. One of the problems that I have is when a goal is made, I either loose the list of goals, or the goal gets lost on the family calendar and it never gets completed. We were at the store the other day and got calendars for 2014. We now have a second one for me that can be used for separate goals. We took the 2013 calendar and made a copy of the October, November and December pages. Our main calendar has things like the kids school holidays and club events…like parades and dances. Years ago we had separate calendars for these things, school and goals, and it didn’t work. I don’t remember why. We went to having everything on one calendar and that didn’t work. We are now back to separate calendars. As long as we keep moving forward, I guess that is what really matters.
Another goal is to get a copy of the driving rules of the road. My kids don’t have licenses yet. We are going to try reading a small section of the book at dinner after we read our devotional. It should only take a few minutes and help the kids feel more comfortable with the test. None of them want to drive.
These are a few of my current goals.
written 3/14/12 – Beth and the boy that she likes have reorganized the calendar so that all of the holidays fall during the school year. They celebrated his birthday last month and are celebrating her birthday this month. I think that they celebrated her birthday, on her birthday too. Maybe they are celebrating them multiple times a year.
Our garden from last year has sprouted. All of the plants from last year were annuals, but maybe because we had such a mild winter, some of the plants are sprouting. I had really wanted time off from the garden this year, but if it all sprouts, we will have a garden. We have a drip hose that we can set up to do the watering and we can mulch it really well so we won’t need to do any weeding. The tomato plants can go out into the middle of the yard so that they can be in the drip line too. I got the idea for the drip line and the mulch from the book “Tips for the Lazy Gardener” by Linda Tilgner. It has really helped a lot to taka away the time needed for watering and weeding. Our water faucet outside can be turned off in our basement. I leave the water faucet turned on outside and shut the valve off in the basement. If the garden needs watering, I turn on the sprinkler from the basement when I get up and turn it off later. I don’t need to go outside to water. That has helped to save a lot of time too.
The garlic is two or three inches high. It needs mulched because we won’t be able to mow the grass that is around it.
Do you have any gardening time savers tips?
Thanks for stopping by. If you like my blog, please stop in again tomorrow!!!
written 2/10/12 – We haven’t done anything with the family tree on the dining room wall lately. Maggie has printed her family tree from the computer. What we should do is write the names and relationships on papers and hang them up. The reason that we stopped is that we didn’t have any pictures of the next generation. We could hang up names and when we get pictures we can add them in. This would keep the project moving.
We need to get a back-up ink for our printer. Since Maggie has a big project due this month we will be using a lot of ink.
I need to finish updating the calendar. It was started at the end of December. The appointments have been added, but the repetitive events are not on it yet. I need to go through it again, month by month, looking at last years calendar and finish it. Also the dinner jobs need to be written in the corner. Their dinner jobs are, napkins, silverware and drinks. The kids keep the job for a month and then switch. They are written on the corner of each month of the calendar because we can’t remember each month who has what job, much less to remember them day to day. My dinner job each day is to make dinner. The kids do help make dinner now and then.
When did you start helping to make dinner? What is your favorite dinner?
2014 April’s Bible verse: “These are the things that you shall do: Speak the truth to one another, render in your gates judgments that are true and make for peace, do not devise evil in your hearts against one another, and love no false oath, for all of these things I hate, says the Lord.” Zechariah 8:16,17
