11/7/15 school and the art museum…

written 3.18.14 –  William did a resume today to send to the computer store. I checked on FAFSA for William and Maggie and they are done and accepted in the computer. Beth is not sure if she is passing chemistry or English. They have tutoring on Tuesday nights at her school but she does math, which she is not passing either. Beth does have ten classes and is passing the others. She usually does really well in her classes, but this year she has really had to work hard to get passing grades. She really wants to bring her grade point average up before she graduates.
written 3.20.14 – Beth is on a field trip to the art museum today. She was excited to go with her friends. When the kids were little we often went to the Art Museum on Friday evenings. They had a craft area for the kids and usually there was a group doing a play that we stayed and watch. In another room they would have a group playing music. The kids liked the craft and the play, but they didn’t like the music, so we would only stay in that room for a little while. I took them a lot because when we went to church they were so loud. I don’t know a lot about art, but I do know that people aren’t supposta yell and touch the art there. It was a good place for me to say to the kids week after week ”we need to be quiet here and not touch anything.” My hope was that if we went there enough the kids would quiet down. Not everywhere, just at places where people were quiet, like church, or my cousins weddings…sorry everyone!!! It didn’t work. We saw a lot of art, but never learned to be quiet.

7/16/15 scheduling classes and finals…

written 1/14/14 – Maggie got all of her classes scheduled today. She is happy with her schedule. I am so relieved that she is done. At the last parent meeting they said that we should get a copy of all of their syllabuses. Then we could know when papers are due and when tests are. Then if we see that a big test is coming up and our kids are not studying, we can ask our kids about the upcoming test. It is not to follow their every assignment, just to make sure that they don’t fall off of any cliffs.

Beth has finals starting tomorrow. She has been studying. She loves seeing all of her friends at school and is happy to be back.

A lot of the snow has melted. This last weekend we could see most of the streets. There are still piles of snow in parking lots. They are so big and cold that it takes a while to thaw them.

How is the weather where you are? Please stop by again!

Here are some pictures: Sorry, all I have left is art museum pictures. Now that the kids are back in school I can concentrate on pictures.thinking man statue 1634 c15

2/9/15 closed lockers…

written 10 ! 16 ! 13 – Beth’s locker at school won’t open. The problem started last week. Beth tried to get it open. Her friends tried to open it. She then went to the janitor. He has been working on it. It must be stuck really well. Today the janitor took off the latch that moves up and down. It still wont open. Tomorrow he is going to try to take the hinges off. They want to get it open without loosing the use of the locker. The problem is that Beth has all of her books and notebooks in the locker. She can’t study. If she had been younger, this may have been all fun, but she will have a lot of work to make up once the locker is opened.

2/6/15 Halloween, ACT, art…

written 10 ! 6 ! 13 – Here are some random thoughts. I think that Beth has decided to be candy corn for Halloween, but there are still two weeks until the Halloween dance. We need to register Maggie and Beth next week for their ACT tests.  We need to put the garden hose away for the winter and get our Halloween witch out and put her on the porch. She is one of the ones that looks like she has run into a telephone pole. The kids and I used to put the witch up each year when they were little. To them the witch was huge, so it took all four of us to carry her. Then we got her set on the porch. It probably only took fifteen minutes, but it was a lot of good memories. Now the kids don’t always have time to help put the witch up. I am not sure if it is because they have homework , or if is because they know that as soon as it is up , I will start saying ” Oh no, there is a witch on the porch” every time that we come home.
Our neighbor likes to decorate for Halloween. They always have a skeleton that looks like he is climbing out of the ground.scarecrow

Here is some art. I didn’t think about taking a picture of the description of the art until we had left the museum. The picture could have told who the artist was.picture of a field

2/5/15 local events, cats…

written 10 ! 3 ! 13 – We are always looking for more local places to go. We look at the local weekly newspapers that are available outside of the library a lot. The other day I was at a rest stop and saw all of the tourist information. There were a lot of pamphlets about single events and some thicker booklets about towns or categories…like a camping booklet. Some of the events had already happened this summer, but I took a pamphlet anyway. It may be an event that we can go to next year. There is a lot more to do in our area than I realized.

Our new cat is almost as big as our first cat. The first cat would like to sleep more, but the new cat thinks that she is a big time wrestler. The first cat ignores her as long as she can they she tries to say go away. The second cat plays more, thinking that the fun has begun. Our first cat still looks at us like ,”why did you bring her here?”cat

Here is some art to enjoy while waiting for the Art Museum to reopen. art

1/16/15 art museum and chop sticks…

written 8/24/13 – Last night we went to the Art Museum. I really thought that it closed at ten. We were there for a half hour before it closed. We wanted to go to the glass blowing area, but we didn’t make it over there. We saw a lot of the museum and took a lot of pictures. When we got back into the car Maggie said that she can’t use the Art Museum as a cultural event because we have been there before. She could use the glass blowing because she hasn’t turned it in as an event before. Maggie and I need to be sure that we are going to places that she can turn in. We had fun, but we really need to accomplish this goal. Tomorrow we are going to the horse races.

We haven’t been to the art museum in a while. I didn’t realize how much I missed it until we walked into the first gallery. We don’t know anything about art. But it is fun to go and see all of the pictures and statues. When the kids were little we used to go every Friday. The museum is free and they had a lot going on on Fridays. There was a kid table where the kids could do crafts. Many times there was a play, and musical groups were there. Sometimes they were groups from high schools and sometimes it was more like an orchestra. They also had tours. I didn’t take the kids on the tours, they were too young and would have been board. If I ever went alone I would go on the tour and then tell the kids the information the next time that we were there. We liked the plays the best. I didn’t realize how much the museum filled me up until we walked in. I took a lot of pictures.

Outside of our libraries, there are a lot of free local papers. They have lists of what is happening in the area. I picked up a copy of all of them yesterday. They have a lot of choices for cultural events and volunteering. We need to get this done soon. Maggie has been in school for a week and the homework will be starting up soon.

Last week we ate dinner with chop sticks. We don’t do this very often. It is fun now and then. We try to do this on nights when we are having sticky food, like something with cream soup on it. Sticky foods are easier for new chop stick users to pick up.

When the kids were little I had a list of skills that kids needed to learn . Eating with chop sticks was on the list. I used it as a guide in teaching my kids skills. I can’t find my list and I can’t find it on the internet. If anyone sees it on the internet, please let me know the link. I would love to go back and see if we have missed anything.

blog income
I have been looking for a way to bring extra cash into my family without getting a second job. I just want enough extra income to be able to pay the bills but still be able to have time to enjoy my kids. I tried a lot of web sites that offered envelope stuffing, they were all dead ends. Then I tried blogging. I figured that if enough people visited my blog then I could add advertisements and get paid. If I monetized my blog I could take the profit to help my family. I have found Blogsvertise. With them I can have advertisements on my blog, or have guest posts or have banner ads. I am still new to this. If I bring other people in to Blogsvertise I can get a percent of what they make. I have the link on the side of my blog. If you click on it you can register your blog and start making money. Please register from my link so they know that you came in through me. If you need to come back later to register please save my page as a favorite and register through my link when you are ready.
