1/27/17 pins and plates and answering machines…

Everyone is OK at the end of this post. About ten years ago William was hit by a pick-up truck. He was riding his bike to the book store to find some books and sit and read for a while. He rode his bike out into an intersection. He was young and young kids feel invincible. He said that he never thought that anything would happen to him. The truck rolled onto his foot. The driver jumped out of the truck to see if he was OK and William started yelling move the truck, you are on my leg, move the truck. The driver had thought that William was by the truck not under it. He moved the truck. William had a broken leg. It could have been so much worse. The leg was broken at an angle and wouldn’t stay together in a cast so they put a plate and pins in the leg to keep it together. It healed so well. William doesn’t have a limp or any other side effects. He has a scar. He did quit bike riding for years.
Now that William is working the leg is starting to hurt. He said he wanted to go to the doctor to have his leg looked at. When I started to make the appointment he said maybe we should wait, it didn’t hurt that much. I said that if it was normal from standing the doctor would tell him, bit if it is the metal rubbing on the bone he needed to get it looked at before the metal rubbed the bone away. He said OK we could make the appointment. The x-ray showed that two pins were up against the bone. The doctor said that we should take the two pins out. It is outpatient surgery. He said the pins will slip out easily and the bone will fill in the holes. William can go back to work the next day.
After the doctor appointment William and I went to the library. We had rented movies last week and needed to take them back, and get more movies. We thought we had rented one movie and it didn’t have a CD in it. So last week I took the case to the library and explained that it didn’t have a CD in it when we got it home. The next day we found the CD. But it was Saturday night and our branch wasn’t open on Sunday. So today we took the CD in. Maggie had filled out applications before she went to her grandmas. When I went inside our house to get the movies I saw the answering machine blinking but didn’t think about it until we were almost to the library. I needed to go back home and listen to the messages and call Maggie if any of the messages were for her. If I went home and got the message now and called her she would still have time to call today before all of the businesses closed for the day. If I waited until we were done at the library, all of the businesses would be closed. So I dropped William at the library and went back to the house and listened to the messages, none of them were for Maggie, and then went back to the library to get William and the new movies. I was tired.

1/26/17 going to grandmas…

Maggie went to her grand mothers today. She is staying there until Tuesday. Grandma is sick and needs someone to stay with her. Beth is also going to stay with grandma. Beth didn’t know that Maggie was going to go over when she set this up. I hope that it works out having both of the girls there. At this house now the people are outnumbered by the cats.
William and I came home this evening and watched the movie Chef.

1/25/17 applications and packing…

Maggie tried to fill out applications but the internet kept shutting off. She did put a lot of effort into it, but it kept shutting down. She wants to try again tomorrow. If she goes to her grandmothers tomorrow she won’t have time to fill out applications. I know that going to her grandmothers will be fun and it is appreciated, but she doesn’t have a gap on her resume right now. She ended school last semester in December. If she starts working now she doesn’t have a gap, I don’t want her to have a gap that she will need to explain forever. She could work part-time and be at grandmas the rest of the day.
I asked Maggie to make a list of what to pack. Maggie can pack a suitcase. I asked her to make a list of what she thinks of first, then add to the list what she uses each day, start at the morning with the comb and picture what you use all day. Then think of what you will need to interview. We have taken weekend trips before, but nothing longer like this will be. She will be close enough that we can take her things if she has forgotten them

10/5/16 growing up and field trips…

William has suddenly grown up a lot. He has started doing the laundry without being asked and he shaved this month after being asked one time. He will only shave once a month.
Beth went to a town about two hours away last Saturday with one of her friends. He doesn’t drive either so his mom, and another lady went with them. Beths friends girlfriend had moved and they were going to see her. They left at about nine in the morning and were coming back that same day. This is one of her first trips that was not organized by the school, that Beth has gone on without me. They stopped for lunch. Beth said that they had the best pizza that she had ever had. I asked if it was because she was really hungry, she said no it really was great pizza. They got back at about five o’clock. Beth had had a good time. We went to church on Saturday evening because Beth was back and Maggie was volunteering on Sunday.
We are still looking for a winter jacket for Maggie. We did find one, it was the style that she likes and it was a brand name coat and it looked new. When she tried it on it was too small. We will keep looking.
Maggie went volunteering with her Enviromental Science group last Sunday. She needs to join a club. College isn’t just going to class, she needs some friends. Maggie left the campus with about four students and the teacher in a van. Maggie remembered to bring a drink and a snack without me having to remind her. That was cool. When we got to the campus to the meeting place, no one was there.Maggie was a bit worried. We were about fifteen minutes early. She said that maybe they were meeting inside. I parked and she went to find the group, she left her drink and snacks in the car. She came back a few minutes later saying that she had found them. She took her snack and water and left.
When I picked up Maggie about four hours later she looked so alive and happy. They had cut down the xxxxxx bush which grows to about forty feet tall and grows wild in the area. Maggie told me the name of what they were cutting down. When I talk to the kids I can’t take notes as we talk but by the time I try to write it down, I have forgotten all of the important words.  There had been about ten or fifteen students, one teacher and one man that put something on the stumps after one was cut down so that they didn’t sprout again. They used hedge clippers to cut them down, so the trunks must have been small. Maggie said that the teacher directed them where to cut. When they had some cut they put them into big piles. She thought that the fire department would come in and do a controlled burn go get rid of the piles. The teacher gave them extra credit points for each hour that they stayed. The group cuts these plants down on the first and third Sunday of the month. Maggie had a great time and wants to go back. When we got home I asked her to write on the calendar the information about the next chance to volunteer.
When the kids were  little I wrote everything on the calendar. Slowly I have let the kids write their own events on the calendar. At first they wrote everything too big. If there event was only for an hour there wasn’t room to write in a second event. They have gotten a lot better with time.

I tried to change the theme of my blog and lost some of the sidebars like the translator. Please bear with me as I try to find them.

11/18/14 winter jackets…

written 10/8/12 – We are going to go out today to get Beth a winter jacket. Her jacket from last year is too small. Maggie’s and Williams jackets still fit.
It was cold out this morning. Beth needs a jacket that will fit into her locker.

11/5/14 Catan…

Written 2/1/12 – William got a board game for Christmas called Catan. We don’t have a real good understanding of the game yet, but we think that we each try to build the most settlements. It was fun, but there were a lot of the directions that we didn’t understand. We did setup the game at ten o’clock at night last Friday which could have added to the confusion. There is a web site that we can go on to get more information. We did have fun playing though, we just filled in our own rules when we couldn’t figure a part out. When can play the correct way when we see the video on the computer.

10/13/14 air gun for science class…

written 4/14/12 – William worked on the dishes today, Beth did the laundry and Maggie needs to make an air gun for science class. It uses a bucket and some plastic and a bungee cord. A hole is cut into the bottom of the bucket and onto the top is taped some plastic. When the bungee cord is pulled back and let go the air rushes out of the cut hole in the bottom. To get an “A”, her air gun must be able to blow out a candle at 20 feet. She needs to write a paper on the project too and do a drawing. It is due in a week or two.

9/4/14 s’mores…

written 2/26/12 – We made s’mores last night. Beth didn’t want to make any. Maggie heated up her marshmallow in the microwave. She said that it would take less time and leave less of a carbon footprint. William and I got sticks from the backyard and toasted the marshmallows over the flame on the stove. William whittled a few sticks so that they had points. It smelled like camping in the kitchen. I said that we should all get our sleeping bags and sleep in the living room. The kids said that if they were ten years old, that would be fun. Toasting a marshmallow takes a lot of skill. It was hard to get one to toast and not burn. Beth did come in later and toast a marshmallow over the stove.

I have been looking for a way to bring extra cash into my family without getting a second job. I just want enough extra income to be able to pay the bills but still be able to have time to enjoy my kids. I tried a lot of web sites that offered envelope stuffing, they were all dead ends. Then I tried blogging. I figured that if enough people visited my blog then I could add advertisements and get paid. If I monetized my blog I could take the profit to help my family. I have found Blogsvertise. With them I can have advertisements on my blog, or have guest posts or have banner ads. I am still new to this. If I bring other people in to Blogsvertise I can get a percent of what they make. I have the link on the side of my blog. If you click on it you can register your blog and start making money. Please register from my link so they know that you came in through me. If you need to come back later to register please save my page as a favorite and register through my link when you are ready. Thanks ahead of time for registering through me and happy blogging!!!
