1/23/17 college and Christmas trees…

Maggie has dropped out of college.I asked her what she wanted to do now. She said she wanted to get a job. I said that would be good and asked her if she wanted to work at Menards, I think they are hiring and since she doesn’t drive it is close for me or her grandma to take her to. She didn’t look thrilled but said that this would be OK.
We need to take the Christmas tree down soon.We usually take it down some time in January, unless we are really busy with the kids school activities, then it is later. If we can’t take it down in January, we do take the Christmas wreath off of the front porch and put the regular wreath back up.  The cats have taken off the ornaments from the bottom foot of the tree. I wanted to turn the lights on the other day but couldn’t find the extension cord. Maggie said that she had taken it. We must have borrowed it from her and she thought we were done. The tree needs its own cord. It is sitting there not lit up with the ornaments from the bottom foot missing. Its just so sad.

11/19/16 getting school books for Maggie…

When Maggie started college this semester, we had some of trouble getting her books. We bought one of Maggie’s books online. That sentence sounds so simple. I guess that if everything we did didn’t come with a story, I wouldn’t have anything to write about. Maggie needed a science book. The teacher told them that they could get it online. On all of the other books Maggie wanted an actual book, but on this one she said that an online one was OK. When she went online I asked Maggie if she was sure that this was the correct book. Remember that now that she is in college, I am not getting any information from the high school teachers. She said that she was not sure. Maggie does have a lot of science due this week and needed the book. Maggie decided to go to class on Tuesday and ask the teacher which book she needed. I said great, but please see if she has office hours that day so if you are still confused after you talk in class you can go to her office and she can pull up the book on her computer and you will know which one we should buy when you get home.
Maggie comes home and she looks up the book. I asked her if it was the correct book…expecting her to say, yes the teacher confirmed it…but she said…maybe, I should email the teacher. She sent a screen print of the book that she thought was correct to the teacher and started doing math. We had dinner and Maggie did more math. Maggie has homework due this week and has no book and doesn’t know which one to buy and it is getting late. Maybe the teacher didn’t have office hours today so that they couldn’t look up the book. It is so frustrating when they are older and you want to help them, but can only offer suggestions.

8/25/16 job search, and starting school…

William is sill looking for a job. We are doing a few applications at a time. If we do too many all at once I am worried that too many companies would call for interviews all for the same day and William would not be able to get to all of them. We have decided that he should apply at places that he would need to be driven to and say that he could only work on the weekends. Then I would drive him. He just looks so lonely. The girls have gone back to school and William is still at home. The only problem with this plan is if they want to interview him during the week.
Maggie started school today. She is in full college. No more college and high school. She had a good day, seeing a few familiar faces. She has four classes and she looks like she is looking forward to them. I am so relieved. Beth starts school tomorrow. She has first week. The kids are grouped together and do projects and presentations for the week. First week lets the kids get used to the school and there is at least one student from each grade in each group, so the students can get to know everyone. The regular school classes start next week.

6/2/16 college, internet, sewing class and prom…

Maggie finds out tomorrow if she passed her college classes. I am so nervous. We don’t know if she passed because the teachers don’t post any grades throughout the semester. Maggie and Beth had youth group tonight. The cable man came over tonight to figure out why our internet keeps shutting off. He checked the wires and gave us a new router box. I like the new box, it is smaller. I take the box with me whenever I go out and the kids are home. A smaller box will be easier to carry around.
Two of the kids and I are going to take a sewing class at the fabric store next week. I am really excited. We have a treadle machine that we have never used. The class teaches about using an electric machine and we will make a billfold. But, we can use these skills on our machine. William found a tailor in the mall that said that he would interview him if he had any sewing skills, so William agreed to take the class. There are more advanced classes that we can take too. The second class makes a pair of shorts and the next one makes a shirt. We don’t know how many classes William will need before he has enough skills to be hired. They have a lot of other classes that I may want to take later.
My aunt was in town last weekend. They went on a trip to another one of their sisters and stayed over there. They looked at a house that my mom would like to buy when her house sells.
Beth had Prom this weekend. Last year everyone in her group had a date except for one person. This year that one person had a date and none of the rest of them did. The theme was Mount Olympus. It was in their gym. After the dance was over at 11, two of Beth’s friends came over and spent the night. They came over and watched a movie then went to bed at two am. One of the friends went home the next morning at ten, the other one went with us to church.

5/31/16 Maggie’s classes…

Maggie needs to set up her orientation at college. She wants to call from home when I am around, but she doesn’t come home until ten at night. Today I went over and got her between classes to have her call from my cell phone, then she can go back in and study more. When she called they were already closed. We decided that she would need to find where they are located and schedule orientation in person. She doesn’t have a cell hone to call on. She is  going to try to find the office tomorrow.

Maggie had some finals last week. She was suppose to have a final last Wednesday. When I picked her up, she said that the final was never posted to the schools website for her to take it. She emailed the teacher to get more information. Today she said that the test would be posted later this week and she was OK. She has taken two finals and handed in one eleven page paper.
She has two finals left to take.  We should know by the end of this week or the beginning of next week if she passed all of her classes. She must pass everything to graduate.

5/11/16 volunteering and math…

I’m sorry that the font is so big, I don’t know how to change it.

Maggie is trying hard at her classes. Only two teachers post any grades so we don’t know how she is doing. She must pass all of her classes to graduate. Maggie wants to go into Environmental Science. I asked her today to talk to her science teacher because his wife is an Environmental Scientist at a local park. Maggie can ask him if she could volunteer with her this summer. Also she said that there was a sign up form to work at the park over the summer. I said if she was interested she could sign up. The volunteering in her field would look best on her resume, but it is her choice.
Maggie is very angry inside. She thinks that everything that goes wrong is the fault of someone else. I think that working or volunteering might help her take control of her own world.
Beth needs to finish algebra to get a D. She doesn’t have that much left to do but she won’t ask the teacher for help. The class is online and it is going very slowly. She has decided to be a cad cam worker for a career. I am going to have her ask the principal if he has a place where she can intern over the summer.

5/3/16 temporary agencies and college…

William was accepted by the temporary agency. Yes I was worried. They had a lot of questions to answer and I know that he is happy not working until he finds the right job. He does want to work. I am not sure how he answered the questions. He must have answered them OK because they sent him forms to fill out. Woo hoo, cheer, cheer!!! One step closer to having William working. Maggie got her official acceptance letter from the college today. It had a new list of things to do on it. I told Maggie that she needed to handle the list. She needs to be part of the process. I will still be going to the university to ask the questions too just to be sure that she is OK.

5/1/16 pretest, meetings and Spring Break…

William’s e-mail still isn’t working so he had the employment agency sent the test to my e-mail. He took the test, but when he was done it was too late to call them. He can call tomorrow.
I need to ask Maggie how her meeting with the entrepreneurship teacher went. Did he open up the first test? She joined the class late and missed the first test. She needs to take this test and pass it to be able to pass the class
Beth has spring break next week. I emailed her math teacher to ask if Beth can do assessments in math over the break. Her math is online. After either ten hours or so many topics, the computer gives them a test or assessment to see of they understand the work. The assessments can only be done at school. Then if the kids are having someone else do their math at home, the teachers can see the students work on the tests. This makes sense, but Beth is very far behind. She needs the whole spring break to catch up. If the computer stops her after ten hours, the rest of the break would be wasted. I am not trying to take away her break, I just want her to pass math.

4/1/16 classes, resumes and old tests…

Maggie tried to apply at the college for her major but the computer wouldn’t let her. I called admissions, they said that because she has applied to the University as undecided she can’t add her major online. They added her major over the phone, and they said to go in in a few days and sign up for orientation.
William called the employment agency today to check on the application that he sent in on Friday. They didn’t have it. They said that he had to use outlook instead of chrome so there computer can’t see it. He tried to re-enter his resume using chrome but the computer wouldn’t take it. William called the agency again and they took his information over the phone. They will e-mail him a questionnaire to fill out and send back. After that William can talk to them about jobs.
Maggie’s teachers from her two classes that she had added have not opened up the work on the computer that was given before Maggie was officially in their classes. Yesterday Maggie was to talk to the math teacher but she didn’t feel well so she didn’t ask him if he could open up the old tests. She had a meeting at 3:30 today with the entrepreneurship teacher to take the first test. The professor didn’t show up so Maggie left. If Maggie can’t take all of these old tests she won’t pass these classes and she will not graduate from high school. When I got there I sent her back in so that she could make a new appointment. The professor was now in his office.
When Maggie got her class schedule fixed, we had all hoped that everything was fixed. We are still hyperventilating.

I have been looking for a way to bring extra cash into my family without getting a second job. I just want enough extra income to be able to pay the bills but still be able to have time to enjoy my kids. I tried a lot of web sites that offered envelope stuffing, they were all dead ends. Then I tried blogging. I figured that if enough people visited my blog then I could add advertisements and get paid. If I monetized my blog I could take the profit to help my family. I have found Blogsvertise. With them I can have advertisements on my blog, or have guest posts or have banner ads. I am still new to this. If I bring other people in to Blogsvertise I can get a percent of what they make. I have the link on the side of my blog. If you click on it you can register your blog and start making money.
