2/23/17 a chapter a day – Bible challenge day 54/365 …

I would like to start a Bible challenge. Read a chapter a day from the Bible and leave a sentance on your blog on what you think, or what you didn’t understand, or how you can use this chapter in your life or whatever you choose to write about this passage. Then Google ”Bible challenge” and the day and comment on others comments. We can become stronger as a community if we are lifting each other up.

I thought about starting in Genesis, but I am in Numbers so I will take you along on the adventure that I have already started. Thank you for joining me!

Numbers chapter 4

The people have left Egypt and are in the wilderness. God has just directed Moses and Aaron to number some of the house of Levi. Some of the interesting parts to me are that the only people that are being numbered are the ones from the age of thirty years old to fifty years old. These are the people that work in the tabernacle. When someone is under thirty, they are still old enough to work. What are the people who are in their twenties doing? Do they have other jobs but have not graduated to the tabernacle work yet? Another thing that I found to be interesting is how many people work in the tabernacle. Every time that they move, the whole building needed to be taken down and carried to the next resting place and reassembled. Did they have carts to carry all of it? The dishes, spoons and bowls could be carried by people, but would the curtains and the hangings be too big for a person to carry all day?

Did anyone else have any other thoughts or questions?

2/9/16. Day 40/365…

1/3/15 Bible study, Genesis 3…

This year, lets start a Bible study!!! I am so excited. If we try to have it every day then maybe this will keep me on the blog every day. Lets start with Genesis 1, and read a chapter each day. I have a Revised Standard Version Bible, so that is where my I will be posting a Bible verse each day from. Who’s in??? You can post a comment about the verse that I have posted or post a verse of your own, or post about anything. It started on 1/1/15 if you want to go back and start from the beginning.
Genesis 3
“But the Lord God called to the man, and said to him, “Where are you?”” Genesis 3:9
This is the first time that I saw God as a friend, not as the creator of the world. He was in the garden and had noticed that Adam and Eve were not there. I was taught in a Sunday school class a few years ago that God wanted to have a relationship with us. He liked it when we prayed to Him. Just like when a parent likes it when their kids come over and say “I love you” to the parent over and over, the parent is glad that the child came over, but the parent might like it if the child said more than “I love you”. If the child shared their day, what happened, what went right or wrong and all of their hopes, fears, and dreams, the parent would really like that. They said that it is the same way with God, He longs to have a relationship with us. He wants to hear about everything, and He wants to have conversations with us all day long. And … He already knows everything that we have done and thought, so none of it is a surprise to Him. This was tough for me at first, how do I have a relationship with God? How do I have a conversation when the other party in the relationship is in heaven? The teacher said that we could talk to God through prayer and He would talk to us through the Bible. By reading the Bible we could hear what God likes and doesn’t like, what his plans are and feel His love for us.
Before this, every night I would say the Lords Prayer and then say a few things like thank you for my kids and please help us through this or that. Then I would fall asleep. It took a while to figure out what to say, and to remember to talk to God during the day. Sometimes during the day it is a quick cheer, a thank-you for something that went right during the day, or a thought that I would share with a friend, like my plans for what the kids and I are going to do that day, or a prayer for a friend who is in the middle of a problem, or just a thought of how pretty the leaves on the trees are when the sun shines through them.
Eventually this has become easier, my prayers are still reverent, I am talking to God, who did make the heavens and the earth, but they aren’t only the Lord’s prayer and a quick hello. Sometimes I do still fall asleep during the prayer, but if I wake up before morning, I say that I am sorry for falling asleep and I continue on with my prayer. Becoming closer to God, for me as helped me to feel like I am not alone. This has been really important to me as I raise the kids. God is still in heaven, and I hear from Him through the Bible, but knowing that I am not alone, even though I do have friends, has meant a lot to me.
How do you stay close to God? Who had guided you to this point? Who are you guiding?

1/2/16 Bible study, Genesis 2…

This year, lets start a Bible study!!! I am so excited. If we try to have it every day then maybe this will keep me on the blog every day. Lets start with Genesis 1, and read a chapter each day. I have a Revised Standard Version Bible, so that is where my I will be posting a Bible verse each day from. Who’s in??? You can post a comment about the verse that I have posted or post a verse of your own, or post about anything. It started on 1/1/15 if you want to go back and start from the beginning.

Genesis 2
“So God blessed the seventh day and hallowed it, because on it God rested from all his work which he had done in creation.” Genesis 2:3
This has always been a tough verse for me to follow. I love it and have a tough time with it. When I follow it, it is very refreshing. We go to church on Sunday, relax at meals together, play and catch up. But … sometimes I forget to get everything done on Saturday so that we can have Sunday off, we need to fold all of the laundry and match our outfits for the next week, get all of the cooking done for the next week, or sometimes we do once-a-month cooking and we need to do all of the housework, like vacuuming. This really sounds like a long list, but after doing this each week, it doesn’t take that long … on the weeks that we really do it. A lot of weeks we get busy, or decide to play on Saturday and don’t match the clothes or make the meals ahead, then on Sunday I realize that nothing is done and we need to do everything that day.
When we do rest on Sunday, it makes a big difference. The next week goes smoother and we are more cemented, interwoven, bonded as a family because we got to spend time together.
Are you able to rest on Sunday? How are you able to get everything done?

1/1/16 Happy New Year!!! update on the blog, Bible study…

Happy New Year!!! I pray for a Happy New Year for all that visit my blog and that God will guide us safely to wherever we need to go.

I have not been posting every day, it seems to be a struggle with finding the time to do everything. I write blogs all day in my head, but can’t find time to put them on my Nook, while I am waiting for kids and sitting in my car, or writing them directly onto the blog at home. Also I haven’t been adding pictures. For a while my phone wouldn’t let me add pictures. I had wanted to be part of the 365 day challenge, adding a picture each day. I even bought a calendar to carry with me so that I could take a picture while I was out and add it to to blog while I was waiting to pick someone up. But … my blog won’t let me add any pictures at all, not from my phone or from my computer. So I have a lot of pictures that will be added when the blog lets me do this. Maybe it’s God’s way of saying “Please write”, or maybe it is a computer glitch.

So this year, lets start a Bible study!!!

Genesis chapter 1.

Genesis 1:3 “And God said, “Let there be light”; and there was light.”

God is so powerful that he can say “Let there be light” and light appears, or is made, or is there. And he has a plan. This wasn’t random, He knew what he wanted to do, how He wanted to set it up, and He did it. I guess that is why I want to be more like God, not to be powerful, I like have limited power, but to have a plan, to take the time to think it through and to actually do things on my plan. I am sometimes a wanderer. I get caught up in whatever is happening and loose sight of the bigger picture for my family. The day to day is important, but if there is a bigger plan, like things to do over the summer, or getting the once a month cooking done each month, these things are really helpful to my family. Many times I make a plan, think it through and write down everything that needs to be done. I am a list maker. Then I get involved in the latest crisis, happening, daily event at our house and either forget about the plan, or loose my list. I don’t think that I have ADD, but I do need to focus more. This year I have gotten a small notebook to keep in my purse to write my lists on. This way I will always know where the list is, I will just need to remember to look at the list.

Where do you struggle in finding and keeping your direction? How are you trying to overcome this?

8/27/15 talents…

written 1/26/14 – We got about two inches of snow on Saturday. It was fluffy snow so the kids couldn’t rebuild their forts with it.
Our church services were cancelled on Sunday because of the weather so we watched the service online. The minister talked about the story of the person who gave talents to his people and went on a trip. He came back to see what had been done with his money. The pastor said that to the person that much talent was given, much was expected. Matthew 25:14-30 I have always wondered if I am doing enough. Raising the kids is a good way to use my talents. We do go to events at church and volunteer at Christmas. We could be doing more. But if we do too much we loose our handle on the kids homework and I don’t want to over-church them. Where is our balance?
Also, should I be doing other things besides raising the kids? Should I be crocheting hats to sell, be on a committee at church, raise chickens? I have other things that I am good at, but when I do them, there isn’t as much time for the kids. Where is my balance? I want to honor God with my choices, but I am not sure what to do. Where do you find your balance?

11/11/14 summer school and mission trips…

written 7/18/12 – Maggie had to take English in summer school. Summer school started a week before their mission trip for church. She had enough done in the class that the teacher let her have the week off to go on the trip. Maggie had worked really hard to get enough done to be allowed to leave for a week. I told her that the class came first. If the teacher said that she needed to stay and be present in the class, then that is how it would be.
There were thirty-two kids and seven adults on the mission trip. They took two vans and an SUV. One of the vans pulled a trailer that had their luggage and supplies for the vacation Bible school in it. The kids went to New Orleans for a week to do a vacation Bible study in the morning and to go and play with the kids in the neighborhoods in the afternoon.

11/8/14 Lego League and the basement…

written 5/2/12 – Maggie is at Bible study tonight. Beth is at Lego League which is a group that teaches kids how to program robots. They sponsor a big compotition at her school once a year. Grade school and Junior High kids come in teams and compete with their robots.

We have started cleaning out the basement. It is going well. A lot of it is clothes that should have gone to the Goodwill and boxes that need repacked. I will be glad when this project is done.

9/20/14 Bible, homework and catch…

written 3/13/12 – Beth gave her friend at school the Bible yesterday. It has a bookmark in it so he moved it to the beginning of the book.

Tonight Maggie is doing homework. Her paper/project is now due Monday because they are having proficiency testing this week. She has her website close to being done.

Beth went across the street tonight to her friends house. She took her glove so that they could play catch.

I am ready to start the spring cleaning.

blog income
I have been looking for a way to bring extra cash into my family without getting a second job. I just want enough extra income to be able to pay the bills but still be able to have time to enjoy my kids. I tried a lot of web sites that offered envelope stuffing, they were all dead ends. Then I tried blogging. I figured that if enough people visited my blog then I could add advertisements and get paid. If I monetized my blog I could take the profit to help my family. I have found Blogsvertise. With them I can have advertisements on my blog, or have guest posts or have banner ads. I am still new to this. If I bring other people in to Blogsvertise I can get a percent of what they make. I have the link on the side of my blog. If you click on it you can register your blog and start making money. Please register from my link so they know that you came in through me. If you need to come back later to register please save my page as a favorite and register through my link when you are ready. Thanks ahead of time for registering through me and happy blogging!!!
